Details Recensie:
Casale San Francesco is a lovely villa and was ideal for us for a family holiday.
We took a 19 year old, a 15 year old and an 8 year old and all found it to be great.
The villa is located down a very quiet narrow country road and took a bit of finding at first as it does not have a name plate or similar outside - we only recognised it because of its wonderful colour! The villa is about 5 to 7 minutes drive from Fiano Romano.
The villa was lovely and clean inside and out, with a galley-style kitchen / dining room and large living room. We actually ate exclusively on the terrace, which was very pleasant. There is a BBQ and pizza oven on the terrace, but we were not brave enough to use these - plus it was 40 degrees outside so a little too warm to slave over hot coals.
Eating out - do make the trip to Alessandro Al Campanile in Sant'Oreste - a fantastic restaurant serving simple but wonderfully tasty Italian food. Eat on the terrace, which gives stunning views across the whole region back towards Rome.
The pool is situated about 20 metres from the villa - the photos give the impression its a little further but its not - and it was where we spent a large portion of our time. The pool was well kept and clean, with a shallow end and a gently sloping deeper end suitable for the older children. Our 8 year old was in heaven for the whole two weeks!
The gardens were pleasant, but not having seen rain for six months were a little dry. We didn't really explore.
The only downside for us were the midges / mosquitos. We were bitten terribly badly on the first two nights and resorted to smothering ourselves in Jungle Formula (industrial strength) and Autan, which kept them at bay. Not a problem by the pool, but around the terrace in the evening was an issue. We bought some zappers for the rooms which helped a lot when in bed.
The owner was very helpful, servicing the pool mid-stay, and responding very quickly to questions and texts.
One last thing - rubbish collection is daily with each day picking up a different type of rubbish (so Monday might be glass, Tuesday plastics etc). Worth knowing and there was a schedule in the villa which we eventually found late week two after trying to understand why the rubbish was not all being collected.
