San Silvestro

Beschrijving

The building, nowadays destined to comfortably welcome Italian and foreigner guests, was for a long time a small church engaged with the Cortonese countryside: the S. Silvestro church, named in several historical evidences, the last one dated 1577 when his manage passed under the control of the territorial cathedral. After that, this church was converted in a classic Tuscan farmhouse, so to have his ancient middle age origin recognizable only to keen and expert eyes: a marvelous sequence of truss crossbeams, a curious window shaped like a bell and an ancient fresco still partly visible representing the saint naming the church.

These details highlight the walls of this characteristic Tuscan house with history and art. Exactly in front of the house overlooks the sacred mountain of Sepoltiglia, theater in 217 b. C. of the Trasimeno’s battle, where Romans fought against the famous army of Cartagine leaded by Hannibal.

Ground floor
Large living room with a fireplace and nearby a simple but functional kitchen.
On the same floor there’s a box room and a bathroom with shower.
First floor double bedroom, a room with two single beds convertible into double and a third smaller room with a single bed.
Nearby the three rooms there’s a comfortable bathroom with a bath tube.
On the upper floor it’s possible to go on a ladder made of stone, ending in a characteristic Tuscan veranda from where it’s possible to see a wonderful view turning to west up to the borders of Valdichiana.
