This is a lovely spot in one of the most beautiful spots in Tuscany. Our apartment was spacious and well furnished. Be aware that this is a stone building; it is quite cool indoors, at least in May. We did not figure out how to turn the heat on, so bring sweaters. The house is 20 minutes drive from nearest towns, and it takes about an hour to get into Florence. I was not aware of how remote it was when I booked it, so would like people to be aware of that. Also, the innkeeper, Leonardo, is very nice, and was quite accommodating. I would highly recommend it, and would gladly stay here again.
Agriturismo Paterno is ideally located for one to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany, with a view of San Gimignano, and easy drives to Firenze, Volterra, Pisa, and the Chianti region. The host family are welcoming and responsive; the accommodation comfortable. Grocery shopping is only a 15 minute drive away in Poggibonsi, should you prefer to take dinners at the farmhouse while enjoying the views!
There were 8 of us and not one of us spoke Italian. A bit of a disadvantage as the keyholder did not speak any English. The Villa is very large, views are awesome. 6 Bedrooms on 2nd Floor, 4 have ensuite baths but only 3 baths have showers. 2 bedrooms have twin beds. Baths and bedrooms are large with great closet space. All but 1 bedroom have veranda access. Francesca and Eleanor are absolutely great chefs and prepared feasts for our group. Be sure to get provisions before arriving...toilet paper, coffee, dish detergent, paper goods, etc. We had difficulty locating a Supermarket (plenty of Italian deli's with food)-finally located a Carrefour Supermarket in Pompeii-also A Sissa Market in Maiori but it closes down from 1 to 4. Transportation...beware...the walk from the Villa to the road is very, very steep..about a 10 minute walk. Bus stops in front of the development but does not drop you off there and it is dangerous walking on the narrow road. I contacted the Villa contact via e mail before we left the states to arrange for a driver but she never responded to my e mail. Also called her when we arrived but she never returned my call. Kitchen is great but the coffee maker takes about 1/2 hour to brew about 4 cups...we were 8 people so the villa really needs a couple of coffee pots. Location of Cetara is great for Salerno, Vietri Sul Mare, Positano, Cetara, Amalfi, Ravello and ferry from Salerno to Capri. Buses-you have to purchase tickets in advance...they are very crowded...would recommend taxis or private driver to get around or car rental if you are not timid to drive the narrow, windy roads. People were amazing, food incredible, and the views were like I have never experienced...would recommend sightseeing during the day then have Francesca and Eleanor cook dinner for you at the Villa...best meals I've had...Villa Cetara could use some comfortable outdoor furniture since you spend most of the time on the veranda. Also, if you are interested in iced drinks, bring or purchase ice trays...also, no wine glasses (we bought some in Maiori). All in all other than minor inconveniences, Cetara is a fantastic Villa...would return without hesitation.
"The setting of Certaldo Alto is a great spot for soaking in the culture of Tuscany. It was a medieval town and still has an air of antiquity about it. The Guesthouse Boccaccio was perfectly situated, just a few steps from an enoteca (wine bar) and less than 3 minutes' walk to several great restaurants and attractions. The views from our room and the surrounding castle were breathtaking. The owner is a nice lady and was very helpful to us while we stayed there. They arranged for us to be picked up at the train station via private car, and dropped off at the train station when we departed. Overall, I am well pleased with our stay in Certaldo.
Positive comment: The view from our room, the convenience to restaurants and attractions, the cleanliness of the room. We had a full kitchen but didn't really use it.
Negative Comment: The wifi signal was a little weak, but adequate. We had to climb a flight of stairs with our luggage, but nothing too difficult. I believe they have a room on the ground floor, but I'd check if you have mobility issues.
Try out the pizza at Da Messer Boccaccio - it was fantastic. Cap off the night at Enoteca Boccaccio (just across the street.) The nearby restaurant, Il Castello, has breathtaking views from the patio and great food. The owner (Ms. Jane) speaks some English, but if you know a bit of Italian you'll probably have an easier time communicating. Also, don't try to walk from the train station to the Guesthouse on foot, if you have bags - you'll have a hard time. Either arrange for a car/taxi or use the funiculare (small train that takes you up the hill.) Once you've left your bags, getting around is easy, but be aware there are some fairly steep hills to climb".
Villa Gropina ligt mooi tussen de wijngaarden vlakbij een leuk dorpje. Er ligt een fijne tuin om het huis waar de kinderen goed kunnen spelen. De eigenaren zijn vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Goed om te weten is dat er geen wifi in huis is. En helaas was het zwembad niet geopend begin mei en zagen de eigenaren het niet zitten om het zwembad alsnog te openen.
[English translation courtesy of Easy Reserve] Villa Gropina is ideally situated between the vineyards near a little village. There is a lovely garden to the house where the children can play. The owners are friendly and helpful. Good to know that there is no wifi in the house. And unfortunately the pool was not open early May and the owners did not want to open the pool yet.
Tollena Wine Resort is in a beautiful setting surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. The grounds are beautiful and planted with many flowers. The roses were beginning to bloom during our stay. The apartment was clean with 4 good size bedrooms. The baths were modern but the showers were very small. The one bath with a tub had no shower curtain and resulted in a very wet bathroom if one chose to shower. For a unit this large, the kitchen was very small but it did have a reasonable size refrigerator. There is no oven in the unit only a microwave so if you enjoy cooking and family dinners, this may not be for you. We were allowed to use an oven in the Tollena kitchen but this was only available from 8-4 on some days. Going outside the unit to bake or cook was not optimal. This unit is on the second floor and had a table with umbrella and chairs on the grass outside the unit but going up and down stairs to serve dinner or lunch was not as convenient as the units at ground level. The washer and dryer were located outside the unit near the reception building and required 10 euros per wash. The pool and swings were wonderful for the grandchildren. The pool is not heated and in May it was pretty cold. Adding a solar panel to heat the pool would solve that problem. We enjoyed our stay in Tuscany and found the resort to be very convenient to the sites. Barbara was very helpful. Tollena is in a beautiful setting and with a few changes could be perfect.
